The Department of English-French offers a comprehensive program that integrates the study of language and literature with educational theory and practice. This program is designed to prepare students to become educators who can effectively teach English and French.
Students delve into the structure, grammar, phonetics, and semantics of both English and French languages.
The program includes the study of literature in English and French, spanning various genres, periods, and cultural contexts.
Courses focus on educational psychology, curriculum development, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques specific to teaching languages and literature.
Students learn effective ways to engage learners, develop lesson plans, and create inclusive learning environments.
Emphasis is placed on methodologies for teaching English and French as second languages (ESL/EFL).
Students explore techniques for language acquisition, bilingual education, and strategies for teaching literature effectively.
Upon completion of their studies, graduates of the English-French (with Education) program have a variety of career paths available to them, both within and outside the traditional educational setting.
They can pursue careers as teachers of English, French, or both languages at different educational levels.
Additionally, they can work as curriculum developers or coordinators, designing educational programs and materials that align with national standards and educational goals.
Some may choose to work independently or with educational agencies to provide personalized tutoring or coaching services to students seeking additional support in English, French, or both languages.
Moreover, opportunities exist in educational publishing or curriculum development organizations, where graduates contribute to designing language and literature curricula, textbooks, and instructional materials.
Graduates may also work as language education consultants, offering expertise to schools, educational agencies, or businesses on language acquisition, bilingual education, and literacy development.
For those interested in furthering their education, pursuing advanced degrees in education, linguistics, literature, or related fields can prepare them for roles in academia, research, or specialized educational leadership positions.
As the program is meant to train those who aspire to be secondary school teachers of English and/or French, a prospective student to enroll in the first year of English-French must have successfully completed secondary school level with at least 2 principal passes in English/Literature in English and French related programmes.
